CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE; Pitch Campaign
Dear Club Member

This is a message to all Club members regarding our campaign for more pitches.

As most of you will be aware, we have spent the last 3 years trying to secure the land beyond Pitch 4 to provide 3 new pitches for the Club and support the growing demand for football in Chorleywood.

We submitted a planning application, which was heard in October 2008 when we were refused permission.  We decided to go to appeal as we felt that our cause was fully justified, but sadly the hearing held last September resulted in the Council’s refusal decision being upheld.

We were bitterly disappointed as we felt that the Inspector had not taken into account the very strong arguments in support of the Club’s plans.  It is a fact that the field beyond Pitch 4 is little used and would have been ideal for us.  However, we have to accept the decision and move on.  Despite massive support from local residents, local politicians of all political persuasions and from the Watford Observer, the reality of the situation is that no expansion will be possible on the current site for the foreseeable future.

The Club continues to go from strength to strength and our membership is now some 500, with waiting lists at many age groups and a pipeline of future talent being fed by our hugely successful Saturday morning Soccer School.  It is therefore imperative that we find an alternative site for more pitches to meet this demand, especially as we would also like to launch a girls team.

The Club Executive Committee is committed to finding a suitable location in the Chorleywood vicinity.  We are currently looking to some of the local farms as possible sites and investigating the consequential planning and road access issues.  One farmer, a Club parent, has very kindly volunteered the use of some of his land and we are discussing this informally with the Council Planners.

The purpose of this message is to bring everyone in the Club up to date with our plans and ask if anyone has any ideas as to local sites, or contacts with local farmers who might be happy to support us.  Please get in touch if you can help.

Wishing everyone a successful and enjoyable second half of the season – let’s hope for better weather so our youngsters can enjoy some good football.

With best wishes

Clifton Melvin
